It is a well-known fact that India is a multilingual
country. There are a number of languages in India, each with millions of
speakers. Most of these languages have their own developed form of local
entertainment. However, when it comes to national entertainment medium, the
primary language is Hindi.
Entertainment in Hindi language is considered universal
in India. This trend, although widely accepted, has resulted in the negligence
of a large section of the mass who are not fluent in the language. So, the
penetration of entertainment remained confined to the urban regions of
non-Hindi speaking states of the country. The population residing in rural
areas of these states, despite comprising a huge market, remained untouched.
However, the scenario has changed in the last few
years. A number of channels have come up now, which have been catering to the
sensibilities of people who are not well versed in Hindi. Today, you would find
entertainment channels in a number of regional languages in India. The best
thing is that the quality of programmes aired by these regional channels is no
less than that offered by Hindi channels.
Needless to say, almost every media company operating
in India has diversified into regional entertainment. But, when it comes
to quality programmes in regional language, no other media company can match up
to Viacom 18. One such channel is Colors Gujarati. This channel caters to their viewers
with their drama, situational comedies and reality shows, all in
Gujarati language.
Another regional channel that has established a loyal
audience is Colors Bangla. The
shows aired on this channel have grabbed the attention of Bengalis so
much that they have made it an essential part of their everyday routine. This
Bengali channel has not only focused on the standard formulae of entertainment
comprising fiction and reality shows, but also tried to add some masala to it with talk shows and music-based
programmes.
Similar to Colors Gujarati and Colors Bangla, ColorsOdia has also transformed the scene of general entertainment among the
speakers of the regional language. Today, the rural folk of Odisha enjoy world-class
entertainment in their own language through this channel.
