Catch the new episodes of MTV Xtreme

The term ‘MTV’ is synonymous with music in Indian television. Since its introduction to the Indian television in 1996, it has been entertaining the Indian youth with the latest chartbusters of Bollywood and the indie music industry. It is very rare to find a household with a young member, where MTV is not turned on at least once a day. People are greatly fond of the format of back to back music which is seen on MTV. However, with the digitalization of music in the current decade, the popularity of MTV India definitely took a hit. It was observed that the youth was more interested in listening to music on their cell phones instead of on the television. To tackle this problem, Viacom 18 had to do something so that the brand name of MTV stayed relevant. So, they decided to diversify MTV India into a few uncharted territories.

A few of these diversifications are:
  • MTV Originals
When MTV India realized that its target audience was able to listen to music over the internet, it started focussing on TV shows of other genres. These included reality shows, teen dramas and talk shows. It also started airing a few drama based short movies by the name of MTV Originals which have been well accepted by the audience. However, MTV India did not want to lose the genre which had given it its identity altogether. So, it launched a separate music based channel by the name MTV Beats, which retained the original style of MTV India. Meanwhile, the flagship channel MTV balanced its tome slots between music and programmes of other genres.

  • MTV Xtreme
The adventure based reality show, MTV Roadies had already gained a cult status among the Indian youth and could be hailed as the longest running successful reality show in India. However, Viacom 18 tried to capitalize on its popularity by doing a makeover of the show as MTV Xtreme. The show is highly experimental as the participants are required to take part in extreme adventure sports. It is speculated that the show will take the popularity of MTV Roadies to greater heights.

  • MTV Bollyland
Viacom 18 decided to take the brand name of MTV out of the television screen in the form of an outdoor event and so, MTV Bollyland was launched. Needless to say, MTV Bollyland has managed to grab the eyeballs of music lovers. The footfall in MTV Bollyland is proof of that. If you want to experience the fun, frolic and energy of MTV Bollyland, you can visit one of its events. You would definitely find your city or any nearby city in its schedule.

Nominated for nickelodeon kids choice awards

Kid’s entertainment has always been a very popular genre on Indian Television. Almost all the general entertainment channels air specific shows for the young population. The best thing is that a few of these shows are also enjoyed by adults. However, kids’ entertainment in the current television market of India is ruled by full-fledged kid’s channels. There is so much diversity that you would find programmes targeting children of various age groups. Besides, you would also find a few programmes which are a good mixture of information and entertainment and are believed to be good for the mental development of children.

When Viacom 18 started its journey in Indian television, it introduced the most popular international kid’s channel, Nickelodeon in India. Although it retained the popular international kids shows, a wide range of new shows were also introduced keeping the Indian sensibilities and preferences in mind. Since its introduction, it has gained popularity amongst the Indian kids. The best thing about the programmes aired on Nickelodeon is that most of them are well researched and cover various aspects which interest the children. Again, the programmes of Nickelodeon are fit for kids of all ages. A recent survey on the popular channels of India has revealed that Nickelodeon is also popular among young adults. This was a big feat for a channel which is totally devoted to children oriented programmes.

Since the last few years, Viacom 18 decided to capitalize on the success of Nickelodeon and started diversifying it. This was the reason why Nickelodeon Sonic was introduced. Sonic is a channel which has young teenagers as its target audience. However, the choice of programmes aired by Sonic are quite universal and would interest anyone very quickly. Given its popularity, the channel has also started to telecast in HD.

Viacom 18 further thought about making the brand of Nickelodeon more interactive and as a result, nickelodeon kids choice awards was introduced. It is an awards show which is run entirely by kids. The kids nominate the best kids based movies and programmes for the award and also vote to choose the winners. This is definitely a breakthrough in the genre of kids entertainment because of which the popularity of nickelodeon kids choice awards is increasing with every passing year.

All these things just indicate that kids entertainment has really come of age in India. Another point to be noted is that kids’ programmes which focus on Indian subjects are suddenly gaining ample amount of popularity. This is opening up new avenues for Indian content creators who are taking inspiration from the stories of Indian mythology and history to create new content.
